Long Term Accommodation Plan
In the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board we have 92 schools with over 32,000 students, across over 7,000 square kilometres. As responsible stewards we need to ensure that our school buildings and configurations provide optimum physical learning environments to complement the academic, social, and emotional learning environment.
Our new Long Term Accommodation Plan has been developed over the course of this school year, with input from various stakeholders, including recent focus group meetings held in five different low-enrolment secondary schools.
This plan is a review of all our schools: elementary and secondary. In some cases, the plan proposes actions to accommodate growth with possible additions or the construction of new schools. The plan also considers possible school consolidations or schools that could be reviewed for possible closure.
The potential changes outlined are largely as a result of the very significant decline in enrolment that we, and most school boards in Ontario, have experienced. In the last ten years alone we have declined by over 7,000 students.
It is important to note that the Long Term Accommodation Plan is a plan only, and that no decisions have been made on any of the possible recommendations. Each of the possible recommendations require a separate decision by the Board of Trustees over the next several years. In addition, the plan will be updated annually to take into account the best information possible.
