eLearning and Edsby
At Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, we provide students with educational opportunities to support their learning with technology. We foster the growth of 21st century competencies with digital tools and virtual interactions to provide increased choice and flexibility in your child's education through online courses in eLearning, or through blended learning in the classroom.
eLearning
Students can take courses online which they can select through their Guidance Counsellor. The completion of two eLearning credits is now a graduation requirement for students with a 2007 birthdate onwards. Contact your student's guidance department if you want to opt out of this requirement.
Registration in eLearning provides students with access to a wide variety of courses from Ontario eLearning Consortium (OeLC) member school boards across Ontario. Online courses provide flexibility for students who may have conflicts in their schedules or are experiencing other challenges. Classes are led by certified Ontario teachers employed by boards who are part of the OeLC.
Students are required to earn two online learning credits to graduate from secondary school, beginning with every student who entered Grade 9 in the 2020-21 school year. Parents/guardians may choose to opt their student out of the mandatory online courses required for graduation. Students aged 18 years of age or older or students who are 16 or 17 years of age and have withdrawn from parental control can also opt out of the graduation requirement. Students and parents/guardians may choose to opt back into the eLearning graduation requirement should their decision change. If you wish to opt out of the eLearning requirement, fill in the form and hand it in to your school’s guidance department.
For current eLearning course options, choose by school year.
The challenges and expectations for students learning online can differ from the traditional classroom setting. Key tips to be successful in eLearning.
All eLearning programming offered through the OeLC is delivered through D2L Brightspace which can be accessed through our KPR student portal.
Blended Learning
Blended learning uses current technologies in a traditional classroom setting. Teacher directed instruction is supported in student use of technology learning tools to enhance student learning, digital literacy and 21st century competencies.
Teachers promote the use of digital tools in research, communication, creation, and presentation of student learning. Students can access information, communicate with peers virtually and demonstrate their learning digitally to their teachers.
How can our Secondary Programming help you?
- Work collaboratively with teachers in evaluating technology enabled resources for student learning (e.g., apps, digital materials, website)
- Support in using the provincial VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) - D2L Brightspace
- Connect teachers/parents/ and students through Edsby
Connect students to the TVO Mathify tutoring program
