Correspondence Courses
Correspondence courses are available through the Centres for Individual Studies (CIS) sites, and at Peterborough Alternative and Continuing Education (PACE). There are approximately 40 secondary school courses available through correspondence which lead to an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. The program is designed to accommodate mature students who work or have family obligations, or who cannot attend school during the day. All correspondence courses meet the requirements of the Ministry of Education and are evaluated by certified teachers. The credits earned are equal to those earned at any secondary school in Ontario.
Enrolment:
To enrol in a correspondence course, you must meet the following three conditions:
- be 18 years of age or older, and not attending secondary school,
- live in the Province of Ontario, and
- be a Canadian citizen OR a landed immigrant OR an Ontario resident holding a work visa, diplomatic visa, or ministerial permit OR a refugee claimant who can provide documentation.
What to Expect:
Earning secondary school credits by correspondence certainly has its advantages because you can:
- start and finish a course at any time of the year,
- work at your own pace (within the five months you must complete the course),
- study when and where you want,
- receive in-person tutoring from your teacher every Monday evening from 6:00PM - 8:00PM during the school year at PACE, and
- phone your teacher during the evening whenever you have a question or need help.
