Updates for Families: April 5, 2024
Dear KPR Families,
This time of year brings renewal, energy and excitement in many ways, and we continue to be amazed by the learning and growth taking place in our schools every day!
Despite this week’s snow, warmer spring days are on their way. Spring is a great time to connect with KPR’s Passport to Reconciliation which focuses specifically on Land this month. Students and their families are invited to engage in the Passport to Reconciliation, which includes weekly activities, guiding questions and resources to help reflect on important topics such as Land Acknowledgements, what it means to be a Treaty partner, land-based learning and the impacts of climate change for Indigenous Communities.
As we look ahead to the coming weeks, our school communities will recognize several important days including Eid ul-Fitr and Vaisakhi. In addition, we look forward to National Volunteer Week from April 14th - 20th where we will celebrate and shine a spotlight on some of the many significant contributions and achievements of volunteers from across the Board! KPR’s events calendar includes information about these dates and others throughout the month of April.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Rita Russo
Director of Education

As we consider the best ways to balance student enrolment in Peterborough City and County schools, the school board is proposing possible changes to school boundaries, programs and family of school groupings, which would begin September 2025.
Information about this process was shared directly with Peterborough area families and schools yesterday. Visit kprschools.ca/ptbo-accommodation for information about the initial four Accommodation Concepts, Frequently Asked Questions, and a link to a ThoughtExchange Survey. Questions about this process can be directed to 705-742-9773, ext. 2201 or by email: kpr_info@kprdsb.ca
Solar Eclipse – April 8, 2024
On April 8, 2024, a spectacular and rare celestial event is set to unfold over Canada, the United States and Mexico – a total solar eclipse! While schools will be closed to students on April 8th as a Professional Activity (PA) Day, this exciting event presents a unique educational opportunity for students and families.
In addition to the learning resources and information about how to observe the eclipse safely available through the Government of Canada website, our public health partners, Peterborough Public Health and the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit have shared key safety messages and reminders to help support families experience the event safely.
Kindergarten Virtual Series
Families with children currently attending Kindergarten or getting ready to start in September are invited to join the next session in our virtual Kindergarten series: Promoting Early Literacy at Home, on April 16th, from 6:30pm – 7:15pm.
