Brighton Child Care Expansion
The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board is pleased to announce the official opening of the Brighton PS child care addition, operated by Brighton Children’s Centre.
The child care centre expansion includes a new infant room funded by the Ministry of Education and a new kitchen for the program, funded jointly by the Ministry of Education and Northumberland County.
Brighton Children’s Centre now provides 49 licensed child care spaces for the community, for infants, toddlers, and pre-schoolers. Before and after-school care for 56 Kindergarten-Grade 6 children is also offered.
“This successful project is the result of our strong government, community and municipal partnerships. We are very pleased to be able to house this addition at Brighton PS. With these expanded licensed child care spaces, more children and families in Brighton will have the opportunity to access licensed care in their local community and transition into full-day Kindergarten,” says Jaine Klassen Jeninga, Chairperson of the Board.
“We know that early years programming is critical to the future success of students, and we always look forward to welcoming child care programs into our schools where we can, together with our partners, support lifelong learning and success,” adds Director of Education Rita Russo.
“We are determined to build schools and expansions faster, part of our commitment to modernize schools and create child care spaces in fast growing communities," said Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education. "We are proud to deliver this critical child care expansion at Brighton Public School for Brighton families, along with increasing funding, staffing and a back-to-basics focus on reading, writing and math skills to help ensure students graduate with confidence that they can succeed in good-paying careers."
“I am proud that our government through collaboration with Northumberland County is working hard to support so many children, parents, and families in our community,” said David Piccini, MPP Northumberland—Peterborough South. “These 49 additional licensed child care spaces for Brighton are going to help alleviate the pressures that parents across the county are feeling and unlock our region’s full economic potential.”Bright
“This expansion marks an important milestone in our collaborative efforts with our government partners, local school boards and child care providers to work together to address the growing need for child care services in our community. We are excited to unveil these new facility upgrades as well as 10 additional infant child care spaces to further support the healthy development and well-being of young children in the Brighton area. With access to safe, reliable and affordable licensed child care, children, families and local economies can grow and thrive,” says Mandy Martin, Warden for Northumberland County.
"Welcome to the Brighton Children's Centre, where we discover the world one giggle at a time, in our newest space for tiny adventures! We’re thrilled to unveil our brand-new infant room - a safe, nurturing space where little ones begin their remarkable journey of exploration and growth, surrounded by love and care," says Brynn Jones, Executive Director, Brighton Children’s Centre.
The construction of the new child care and kitchen spaces was funded by a $1.18 million investment by the Ministry of Education and Northumberland County.
School board officials and staff, representatives from Brighton Children’s Centre, Northumberland County, and the Municipality of Brighton gathered for an official ribbon cutting to celebrate the official opening of the addition.
