Updates for Families: May 31, 2024
Dear KPR Families,
On this last Friday in May, let’s all take a deep breath in preparation for the excitement of the last four weeks of the school year! I want to thank everyone for your support of the many educational activities already in progress this month, and those that lie ahead in June.
June is Pride Month! Students, staff and school communities come together this month to celebrate, uplift and empower the voices of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities! As a symbol of our commitment to creating inclusive, identity-affirming learning and working environments for all, the Pride flag will be flown outside all KPR schools and education centres throughout the month.
June is also National Indigenous History Month, a time for students and staff to engage in holistic learning and reflection about Indigenous cultures, perspectives and histories. This month is an opportunity to continue to build on the important work that has taken place throughout the school year, supporting a deeper understanding of past, current and future experiences of all Indigenous peoples in Canada.
KPR schools embrace opportunities all year round to educate, take action towards reconciliation, and reaffirm values of equity, diversity and inclusivity.
This week is National AccessAbility Week, a time to celebrate the valuable and meaningful contributions of all persons with diverse abilities and reflect on how we can create more inclusive classrooms, schools and workplaces by recognizing and removing barriers. Information about days of significance, including School Crossing Guard Appreciation Week is available on the Events Calendar on the board website.
Take care everyone,
Rita Russo,
Director of Education
